Overnight Remote Jobs: Who Hires for Nights, Evenings and Weekends
Educational information, not financial, tax or legal advice. Pay figures are published medians and employer postings, not a promise of what you will earn. Read our disclaimer.
The house is quiet, the dishes are done, and you are wide awake, which is exactly when overnight remote jobs start their shifts. Someone has to answer the help desk at 2 a.m., read the emergency scan, and pick up the nurse advice line. The work is real, but most night-shift listings ask for a license or years of experience, and beginner-friendly ones are fewer than the ads suggest. This guide sorts the openings by shift type, names the job families that run around the clock, and explains what the pay figures really mean and what NIOSH says about night work and your health.
Who actually hires remote workers for the night shift
Most overnight remote work comes from organizations that cannot close: hospitals and imaging groups, nurse advice lines, insurers with round-the-clock review desks, IT teams that keep systems running, and call centers that answer at all hours. When we counted on October 13, 2026, our overnight-and-evening board held 170 US-eligible listings posted in the previous 30 days, 164 of them open only to people in the US.
The mix is the first thing to understand. Sixty of those 170 listings came from one company, Radiology Partners, and most of its openings were for radiologists reading scans at night. NOCD, a mental health provider, had 12. Only 16 listings were tagged entry-level, against 102 mid-level and 56 senior. By schedule, 128 were full-time, 24 part-time and 15 contract.
So the honest answer: overnight remote jobs exist in real numbers, but most ask for a license or years of experience. The beginner-friendly ones are support roles such as overnight technical support, clinical communication desks, evening customer care and weekend production shifts, and they are a small slice of the board.

Job families that run 24 hours, and the government sources that say so
Some job families run all night by design, and federal career data says so. Look here first, because in these fields the night shift is built in.
| Job family | Why it runs at night | What the source says | Typical entry requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Call centers and customer service | Customers call at all hours | BLS: shifts may start early "because some call centers are open 24 hours a day" | High school diploma or equivalent (BLS) |
| IT and help desk support | Systems fail at 3 a.m. too | BLS: "Because computer support services may need to be available 24 hours a day, some specialists work nights or weekends" | Varies; many help desk roles start at tier 1 |
| Nursing and telehealth triage | Patients need advice around the clock | BLS: nurses in round-the-clock settings "may work nights, weekends, and holidays" | RN or LPN license |
| Utilization management at insurers | Hospital admissions don't stop at 5 p.m. | CVS Health's posting says Utilization Management "runs 24/7," so schedules include holidays and evening hours | RN license plus clinical experience |
| Teleradiology | Emergency scans need a read overnight | Our count: 60 of 170 overnight listings came from Radiology Partners | Physician (radiologist) |

Where a beginner fits in that list
Call-center work is the realistic starting point without a credential; our customer service remote jobs guide lists at-home employers and what each requires. Help desk work comes next if you have some technical comfort. The clinical rows need a license, covered in our remote nursing jobs guide. Unlicensed titles on our board included "Technical Support Agent – OVERNIGHT" and "Overnight Clinical Communication Specialist," a coordination job inside a radiology practice.
Remote evening jobs: second shift without a ruined sleep schedule
Evening shifts are the gentler version of night work: you finish around midnight and still sleep at night. Many people searching for overnight work from home jobs actually want this, especially parents who hand off childcare after dinner and people adding a second income. On our board, evening listings were more varied than true overnights:
- Insurance and pet-insurance customer care. Independence Pet Holdings listed a "Licensed Customer Care Agent – Evening Shift," tagged entry-level. "Licensed" here means an insurance license, so read the posting for whether you need it before you start or can get it after you're hired.
- Financial counseling. American Consumer Credit Counseling listed a "Bilingual Credit Counselor – Remote | West Coast Evening Shift," also tagged entry-level.
- Document production. RR Donnelley listed a "Document Production Associate – 2nd Shift Weekend," entry-level, with a posted range of $16.59 to $22.50 an hour.
- Therapy. Talkspace listed an "Evening/Weekend Contract Therapist" at $70 to $90 an hour, a licensed contract role.
Always read the time zone. A "5 p.m. to 2 a.m. MST" shift, which appeared in one radiology listing, starts at 7 p.m. for someone on Eastern time. If evenings are all you have, our part-time remote jobs guide covers short-hours schedules and weekly minimums.
Weekend-only and PRN shifts: fewer hours, less certainty
PRN means "as needed": you stay on the employer's list and pick up shifts when they need coverage. It is common in healthcare, and our board showed clinical and non-clinical versions.
What the weekend and PRN listings looked like
- Radiology Partners' "PRN Radiology Service Coordinator – Weekends, Nights, Afternoons" was listed as temporary at $21 to $22 an hour.
- IntellaTriage listed a part-time "Remote Hospice Triage RN," every Saturday and Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central. That is a weekend job, but a daytime one.
Weekend and holiday rules hidden in ordinary postings
Many jobs not labeled "weekend" still require weekends, according to the employers' own postings. U-Haul's remote phone agent role asks for at least 25 hours a week "including weekends and holidays." Centene's remote Clinical Review Nurse works 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in your own time zone "with rotating weekends and holidays." Concentrix's healthcare customer service posting asks for open availability.
The catch is predictability. PRN hours can swing from month to month, and postings rarely promise a minimum, so ask how many shifts PRN staff typically get.
Why the posted pay on our overnight board looks so strange
When we counted on October 13, 2026, the 78 overnight listings that posted pay in US dollars had a median annualised range of $352,500 to $475,000. That figure is real and useless to almost everyone reading this. It comes from radiologists, with Radiology Partners posting ranges such as $450,000 to $750,000 a year.
Only four listings posted an hourly wage, with a median of $20 to $23 an hour, too few to call a market rate. It does match individual support listings: $19 to $24 an hour for the overnight clinical communication role, $21 to $22 for the PRN coordinator, and $16.59 to $22.50 for the weekend production shift. For a wider benchmark, the BLS puts the May 2025 national median for customer service representatives at $21.53 an hour and for computer support specialists at $62,890 a year ($30.24 an hour), covering all shifts and settings.
Is there extra pay for working nights?
Not by federal law. The U.S. Department of Labor says plainly that the Fair Labor Standards Act "does not require extra pay for night work." A night differential is "a matter of agreement between the employer and the employee." What the FLSA does require is time and a half for covered, nonexempt workers who go over 40 hours in a workweek, day or night (DOL: Night Work).
So never assume a premium on remote overnight jobs. If a posting doesn't mention a shift differential, ask before you accept.
What NIOSH says night work can do to your health
Working nights from home removes the commute, not the biology. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), part of the CDC, runs a training course on shift work and long hours. It says "shift workers may be at somewhat higher risk for several types of diseases" (NIOSH training for nurses, Module 3).
The conditions it lists are cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal disorders, psychological disorders, cancer (with breast cancer the most researched), diabetes mellitus, adverse reproductive outcomes and difficulty managing chronic diseases. NIOSH is careful about how strong that evidence is. It notes that "research of shift workers is challenging and has some limitations," partly because people who can't tolerate night shifts tend to avoid those jobs, which makes the risks look smaller than they are.
None of this rules out night shift remote jobs. It means deciding with open eyes, and talking to your doctor first if you have a condition such as diabetes or heart disease.
Before you apply: checks that matter more for night jobs
Scammers target people with odd hours because they are eager for anything that fits. The usual rules apply, and a few matter more for overnight remote jobs.
- Confirm the shift in writing, with a time zone. "Overnight" means different hours to different employers. Get the start time, end time and time zone before you accept.
- Ask whether training runs on the same shift. Your training class may not meet during the hours you were hired for.
- Ask about a shift differential. Federal law doesn't require one, so the only way to know is to ask.
- Check that the job appears on the company's own careers page. The FBI says a posting that appears on job boards but not on the company's website is a sign of a fake listing (FBI IC3).
- Walk away if the interview happens only by text or chat app. The FTC lists interviews done solely by email or online chat as a red flag (FTC).
- Never pay to start. The FTC says honest employers will never ask you to pay to get a job (FTC: Job Scams).
