Remote healthcare jobs are not only for nurses: when we counted on October 13, 2026, we found 322 US-eligible non-nursing healthcare listings posted in the previous 30 days, alongside 324 nursing listings we track separately. They covered patient access, billing, coding, health information, pharmacy and clinical review. Ninety of the 322 were tagged entry-level, and most of the rest asked for a credential or a few years in the field. This guide lays the work out as a ladder, from call-center roles that need a high school diploma to licensed clinicians. Each rung shows what the certifying body or the employer actually requires and what BLS says the occupation pays.

Most remote healthcare work is billing, coding, pharmacy and patient access, not bedside care

Yes, remote healthcare jobs are hiring, and most of them do not need a nursing license. Of the 322 non-nursing listings in our October 13, 2026 count, 316 were open only to US residents, 271 were full-time and 90 were tagged entry-level. Mid-level roles (170) were still the largest group, with 53 senior, 24 manager and 10 director positions.

Only 70 of the 322 listings posted pay. Among the 19 hourly ones, the median range was $22 to $26.44; across all 70, annualised, it was $64,442 to $81,286. That is what employers chose to publish that month, not a promise for a first job.

Counted by HowToMakeMoneyFromHome.online from the 310 US-eligible healthcare (non-nursing) listings on Himalayas and Jobicy on Oct 15, 2026, after removing duplicates, expired posts and scam-pattern titles. Pay medians use only listings that state a USD wage; hourly and yearly figures are the employers' own posted ranges. Recounted every day.

The most frequent posters were Shields Health Solutions (8 listings), Lifelancer (7), ExactCare Pharmacy (6), Aptive (6), The Henry Ford Health System (5), Virtual Rockstar (5), Gainwell Technologies (4) and CorroHealth (4). Titles ranged from billing specialist and HIM coordinator to surgery coder and pharmacy technician.

Nursing behaves differently: 324 listings, only 18 of them entry-level. Licensed nurses should read our remote nursing jobs guide; this page covers the whole ladder.

The credential ladder: eight remote medical jobs from no license to licensed

The bottom rungs ask for a diploma, a quiet room and customer service experience. Each step up adds a credential. For remote healthcare jobs specifically, the table lists what each rung asks for, according to the organization that grants the credential or the employers' own postings, with the BLS May 2025 national median where one exists.

RungRoleWhat it asks forBLS median (May 2025)
1Patient access, scheduling, healthcare customer serviceHigh school diploma or GED plus call-center experience, per employer postingsMedical secretaries and administrative assistants: $45,930 a year

5Medical billing and codingCPC from AAPC is a common ask; passing first earns CPC-A (apprentice)Medical records specialists: $24.59 an hour

BLS medians cover everyone in an occupation, on-site and remote. Where the table says "no separate BLS figure", BLS does not publish one, so we don't invent it.

Entry level healthcare jobs you can do from home without a license

The lowest rung is healthcare customer service: answering member calls, scheduling and explaining benefits. Several call-center employers in our directory list remote healthcare roles by name, and their postings say exactly what they want.

  • Conduent lists a Remote Healthcare Customer Service Representative. Its October 2026 posting says customer service experience "is a plus, but not a requirement," yet also lists a year of face-to-face customer service under requirements. It pays $16 an hour, with 5 weeks of classroom training plus 2 weeks of nesting (paid, mandatory, 100% attendance).
  • TTEC advertises a Healthcare Customer Service Representative role. It asks for 6 months of customer service experience and a high school diploma, and its CSR posting lists a base wage "starting at $13.00 to $16.35."
  • Alorica posts a Remote Healthcare Customer Service Representative that requires healthcare experience, with 6+ months of call-center work preferred. The posting is open only in a list of 20 states.

These are real jobs with paid training, and they are the most honest answer to "can I get into remote medical work with no experience?" Call work teaches the vocabulary of claims, eligibility and prior authorizations that the next rungs test you on. Our customer service remote jobs page covers the hiring steps for this kind of work in detail.

Where scheduling and insurance verification fit

Hospital call-center scheduler and patient access titles appeared in our count across both the healthcare and customer service feeds. The closest BLS occupation is medical secretaries and administrative assistants, with a May 2025 median of $45,930 a year. BLS says workers in that group "take simple medical histories of patients, arrange for patients to be hospitalized, or process insurance payments," and that medical secretaries "may train for several months" to learn the terminology. Insurance verification, which means checking a patient's coverage before a visit, is part of the same patient access work.

Prior authorization, claims and denials: the middle of the revenue cycle

Before some treatments, a provider must ask the insurer for approval (prior authorization). After the visit a claim goes out, and if it is rejected someone works the denial. This work happens entirely on screens and phones, which is why so many remote healthcare jobs sit here.

Our count shows the split clearly. Titles such as "Claims - Patient Accounting Denials Specialist", "Claims Processor I" and "Claims Processor II" sat beside clinical review jobs that need a license. When a prior authorization request needs a clinical judgment, insurers give it to licensed staff. CVS Health's Utilization Management Nurse Consultant posting, for example, asks for an active RN license and lists utilization management or prior authorization experience as preferred.

So if you see "prior authorization" in a title, check which side it is on:

  • Administrative prior-auth or intake roles gather documents, submit requests and chase status.
  • Clinical prior-auth and utilization review roles decide whether a request meets medical criteria, and list an RN or LPN license (one listing in our count was a part-time "Prior Authorization Psychiatrist").

The medical billing feed we track separately is larger than most people expect. It had 207 listings on October 13, 2026, but only 26 tagged entry-level against 100 mid-level and 50 senior. Among its 11 hourly listings, the median range was $22.79 to $31.25. Employers want people who have already worked claims, which is why a year on rungs 1 and 2 pays off.

Health information and coding credentials: what RHIT and CPC actually require

Medical records and coding work is the most clearly remote-friendly part of the field. BLS says "medical records specialists compile, process, and maintain patient files" and "typically spend many hours at a computer." Its May 2025 median for the occupation is $24.59 an hour ($51,140 a year). It projects 8% growth from 2025 to 2035, which it labels much faster than average. The usual entry education it lists is a postsecondary nondegree award, and it notes that "employers may prefer to hire medical records specialists who have acquired certification."

Two credentials dominate remote postings.

RHIT from AHIMA

AHIMA's Registered Health Information Technician is gated by education. AHIMA says it "only accepts HIM degree programs to sit for the RHIT," which means completing a CAHIIM-accredited health information management program at the associate degree level. The exam has 150 questions with three hours and thirty minutes to finish, and a passing score of 300. AHIMA lists the cost as $229 for members and $299 for non-members. RHITs verify that records are complete and accurate and properly entered in computer systems.

CPC from AAPC

AAPC's Certified Professional Coder is exam-gated rather than degree-gated, but it is not a beginner's shortcut. AAPC's exam has 100 multiple-choice questions to be completed within 4 hours, and you must answer at least 70% correctly. To register you need current AAPC membership. AAPC also says its exams are not meant for people with little or no coding or relevant professional experience. Passing gives you CPC-A, an apprentice standing, and AAPC says "you remain an apprentice until you fulfill the 2-year experience requirement."

That apprentice rule explains why titles like "Coding Auditor" and the cardiothoracic surgery coder role in our count are experienced positions. Expect to start in billing or records before a remote coding seat.

Pharmacy technicians who work from home: certification and state rules

Remote pharmacy technicians handle refill calls, insurance outreach, order entry and patient assistance. Our pharmacy technician feed had 49 US listings on October 13, 2026, 27 of them tagged entry-level. Shields Health Solutions (8), ExactCare Pharmacy (5) and IQVIA (4) posted the most. The three listings that gave an hourly wage had a median of $22.

The BLS May 2025 median for all pharmacy technicians is $22.00 an hour, or $45,750 a year. BLS lists a high school diploma or equivalent as typical entry education and projects 6% growth from 2025 to 2035. BLS also notes that "most states regulate pharmacy technicians" and that "some states and employers require pharmacy technicians to be certified." That is why titles in our count carried state tags, such as "Pharmacy Technician, PCO - Remote, TN" and "Registered Pharmacy Technician Rx To Go."

The national certification most postings name is PTCB's Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). According to PTCB, you qualify by completing a PTCB-Recognized Education/Training Program, or with at least 500 hours of work experience as a pharmacy technician (finished before you apply). You then pass the PTCE exam. PTCB lists the application and exam cost as $129, and CPhTs renew every 2 years.

Schedules can run late: one listing was "Pharmacy Technician - ATM CPN (Thursday to Monday, 3:30PM - 12:00AM ET)," and another was PRN (as needed).

Licensed clinicians at the top: nurses, nurse practitioners and the state-license catch

Nurses are the largest licensed group working from home, and they get their own guide: remote nursing jobs covers triage, case management, utilization review and auditing role by role. The short version for this ladder: a license follows the patient, not you. The Nurse Licensure Compact site says "43 jurisdictions are currently part of the NLC," and nurses who live in a compact state "can apply for a multistate license if they meet the licensure requirements." A nurse outside the compact may need a separate license for each state an employer serves.

Above RNs sit nurse practitioners and other advanced practice clinicians. BLS puts the May 2025 median for nurse anesthetists, nurse midwives and nurse practitioners at $134,920 a year ($64.87 an hour). It lists a master's degree as typical entry education and projects 36% growth from 2025 to 2035. BLS also says these clinicians "must also be licensed in their state and pass a national certification exam."

Our nursing count showed how state-bound these roles are, with titles such as "Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP)- Arizona State." Some employers pay to extend licenses: UnitedHealth Group's telephonic RN case manager posting covers application fees for additional states. Most clinical roles still want hospital or clinic experience first. The nurse postings in our directory ask for anywhere from 1 to 5 years.

Before you apply: home office rules, privacy and fake healthcare offers

Because you will see patient records, healthcare employers write strict workspace rules into their postings:

  • Humana says work-at-home staff need at least 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload, plus "a dedicated space to protect member PHI" (protected health information).
  • Cardinal Health asks for a dedicated, quiet, private space and a secure broadband line, and says dial-up, satellite, WiFi and cellular connections are not accepted.
  • Conduent wants a distraction-free, secure workspace with no one else present during work hours.
  • Alorica requires DSL or cable broadband with the workstation connected directly to the internet.

Before you apply for work from home healthcare jobs, test your internet speed and check that you can plug a computer straight into the router.

Fake medical jobs follow the same script

The FTC's red flags apply here too. Honest employers never ask you to pay for training, equipment, a starter kit or a certification before you start. No real employer sends you a check to deposit and then asks you to buy equipment or gift cards with part of it. And nobody legitimate asks for your Social Security or bank number before an interview.

There's one healthcare-specific twist. You will pay certifying bodies such as AAPC, AHIMA or PTCB directly for their exams, at the prices on their own sites. You should never pay a would-be employer to "certify" you. Our work from home scams page has a checker that walks through these warning signs.

The remote jobs hub compares every job family we track, and our guide to how to make money from home sets remote work beside side hustles. If you need income while you study for a credential, part time remote jobs can bridge the gap.

Questions people ask

Can you get a remote healthcare job with no experience?
Sometimes, usually at the customer service rung. Of the 322 non-nursing healthcare listings we counted on October 13, 2026, 90 were tagged entry-level. Healthcare call-center roles at Conduent and TTEC ask for a high school diploma and up to a year of customer service experience, then train you. Coding and clinical review roles almost always want prior experience or a credential.
What is the easiest medical job to do from home?
The easiest to get into is usually healthcare customer service: answering member or patient calls, scheduling and explaining benefits. It needs no license, and employers such as Conduent list paid training (5 weeks of classroom plus 2 weeks of nesting in one October 2026 posting). Expect strict home office rules and fixed shifts, but it is the most open door into remote medical work.
Do remote medical coders need to be certified?
Most remote coding employers ask for a credential, and AAPC's CPC is the one named most often. AAPC's exam has 100 multiple-choice questions, takes up to 4 hours and requires at least 70% to pass. New passers hold CPC-A (apprentice) status until they meet a 2-year experience requirement. AHIMA's RHIT is the other common credential; it requires an accredited associate-level HIM program and costs $229 for members or $299 for non-members to sit.
How much do work from home healthcare jobs pay?
It depends on the rung. BLS May 2025 national medians run from $22.00 an hour for pharmacy technicians and $24.59 for medical records specialists, through $30.96 for LPN/LVNs and $46.90 for registered nurses. Nurse practitioners and related advanced clinicians are at $64.87. Among the 19 non-nursing healthcare listings that posted an hourly wage in our October 13, 2026 count, the median range was $22 to $26.44.
Do remote healthcare jobs include pharmacy technician roles?
Yes. Remote pharmacy technician roles handle refill calls, insurance outreach, order entry and patient assistance, and our October 13, 2026 count found 49 such US listings, 27 of them entry-level. Many are tied to one state, because BLS notes that most states regulate pharmacy technicians. PTCB's CPhT credential, which costs $129 and needs a recognized training program or 500 hours of experience, is the certification postings name most.
Do I need HIPAA training before applying for remote medical jobs?
No. None of the healthcare postings in our directory lists HIPAA training as something you must have before applying. What they do require up front is a workspace that keeps patient information private. Humana asks for a dedicated space to protect member PHI, and Conduent wants no one else present during work hours. Be wary of anyone who says you must buy a privacy certificate to be hired.
