Jobs for Stay at Home Moms, Sorted by the Hours You Actually Have

Educational information, not financial, tax or legal advice. Pay figures are published medians and employer postings, not a promise of what you will earn. Read our disclaimer.

Jobs for stay at home moms only work if they fit the hours you actually have, so start there: count the time that is reliably yours each week, without a child who needs you. Nap times and evenings add up to one kind of schedule, the six or seven hours while kids are at school add up to another, and a full workday with childcare covered is a third. Each one points to different work and different employers. This guide sorts real options by those three schedules, using company-published requirements, BLS pay data and our own October 13, 2026 count of part-time remote listings. It applies to any parent or caregiver at home, not only moms.

Which jobs fit which hours: the short answer

The quickest way to narrow the field is to match your reliable hours to the kind of work that tolerates them. Short, unpredictable windows suit task-based and per-minute work, where nobody expects you at a set time. Steady blocks of four hours or more open up scheduled part-time employment, and a covered full workday opens full-time remote jobs with benefits.

Hours you can count on each weekWork that fitsExamples from company pages
5 to 10, in scattered blocks (naps, evenings)Paid research studies, transcription, AI-rating tasks, selling used itemsProlific, Rev, TranscribeMe, CrowdGen
15 to 30, in steady blocks (school hours)Part-time customer service, contract call-center work, tutoring, freelance adminTTEC, Working Solutions, U-Haul
40, with childcare coveredFull-time remote customer service, healthcare and nursing rolesConcentrix, Transcom, Foundever, Conduent

Three honest caveats before you pick. First, scattered-hours work usually pays per task or per minute and has no guaranteed volume. Second, almost every scheduled phone job requires a quiet room with no one else's noise, which matters a lot with small children at home (more on that below). Third, every legitimate employer here pays you; none charges you to start, with two contractor platforms as partial exceptions explained in the last section.

For the wider picture beyond parents, our main guide to how to make money from home compares jobs, side hustles and selling side by side.

Nap-time and evening work: 5 to 10 scattered hours a week

If your free time comes in 30- to 90-minute pieces, look for work with no fixed start time. These options let you log in when the house is quiet and stop when it isn't.

Prolific connects people with academic and AI research studies. Its help center says researchers must pay at least $8 per hour, with $12 per hour recommended, and pay is cash to PayPal. New participants join a waitlist first, so it is not instant income.

Transcription

Transcription pays per minute of audio, not per minute of your time, so speed matters. Rev's freelancer page lists Transcriptionist pay of $0.40–$1.10 per audio minute, paid weekly via PayPal, but it also says there is currently a waitlist. TranscribeMe says pay starts at $15–$22 per audio hour and that average monthly earnings are $250, which is a realistic picture of nap-time transcription. GoTranscript says transcribers earn up to $1.75 per audio minute and requires no prior experience.

AI rating and data tasks

CrowdGen, Appen's contributor platform, says it will never ask you to pay to join and that most projects need no experience, though many have a qualification step. DataAnnotation lists general work starting at $25–$50+ per hour, but it asks for a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and a one-time assessment you can take only once.

Selling what the family has outgrown

Children outgrow clothes, gear and toys fast, and selling them fits scattered hours well. Facebook Marketplace charges its selling fee only on shipped checkout orders, so a local pickup paid in person costs nothing. For shipped sales, Mercari takes 10% of the item price plus buyer-paid shipping, and Poshmark takes 20% on sales of $15 or more. Our guide to where to sell used items compares the rest.

None of these will replace a salary in 10 hours a week. They are best treated as a way to earn something while testing what kind of work you like.

School-hours schedules: part-time stay at home mom jobs

Stay at home mom jobs with a real schedule tend to start once children are in school, because that is when four- to six-hour blocks become reliable. This is also where part-time remote employment, with a paycheck rather than per-task pay, becomes realistic.

On October 13, 2026, our count of US-eligible part-time listings found 232 posted in the last 30 days, 230 of them open to US-only applicants. The employers posting most were FindTutors (25), Marketplace Ministries (14), Embry-Riddle (13) and DeVry University (12), so tutoring and university roles dominate. The median advertised range on listings that showed hourly pay was $30–$37, but only 51 of 232 listings showed US-dollar pay, and many are credentialed roles such as instructors and counselors, so treat that as a ceiling rather than a typical entry rate.

Scheduled phone and chat work

Customer service is the largest source of part-time remote jobs that don't need a degree. What the employers themselves publish:

  • TTEC says its at-home staff are part-time employees expected to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, with schedules of 20 to 30 hours, shifts of 4 to 6 consecutive hours, and availability on weekends and holidays.
  • U-Haul's part-time remote phone posting asks for at least 25 hours a week including weekends and holidays, with starting pay of $16 an hour. You supply the computer, webcam and headset.
  • Working Solutions contractors schedule their own work hours, with contract hours of 15 to 40+ a week, and programs pay $0.25 to $0.31 per productive minute.

Notice the weekends and holidays in both TTEC's and U-Haul's terms. That can work in your favor if another adult is home with the children on those days.

Tutoring and freelance admin

Tutoring fits school hours if your students are adults or in other time zones, and evenings if they are school-age. The BLS May 2025 median for tutors is $20.84 an hour. For freelance admin work, the BLS median for secretaries and administrative assistants is $23.23 an hour and for bookkeeping clerks $24.36, though freelancers starting out should expect to build up to those rates. Our guide to freelance jobs for beginners online covers how to find the first clients.

Full-time remote jobs for stay at home moms with childcare covered

If you have childcare covered for a full workday, remote jobs for stay at home moms look like any other remote job: scheduled shifts, training, and employee benefits. Customer service is the biggest entry point: in our October 13, 2026 count, 203 of 310 US-eligible customer service listings were tagged entry-level. Here is what their own postings published in October 2026:

EmployerPay on a recent postingTraining and benefitsNotable requirement
Concentrix$15–$17/hourPaid training; medical, dental, vision, 401(k)1+ year of customer service experience
Transcom$17.31 starting pay plus monthly incentivesCompany provides computer, monitor and headsetPrivate room with a door
Foundever$17/hour, training at $16/hourCompany ships equipmentCannot be a primary caregiver during working hours
Conduent$16/hour5 weeks of training plus 2 weeks of nesting; benefits from day oneNo one else present during work hours

For context, the BLS May 2025 median for all customer service representatives is $21.53 an hour, and BLS projects a 5% decline in the occupation from 2025 to 2035. Starting rates at large call-center employers sit below that median.

If you were a nurse before staying home, remote nursing pays far more. UnitedHealth Group's Telephonic RN Case Manager posting lists $60,200 to $107,400 a year for full-time work, Monday to Friday, but asks for 3+ years of hospital RN experience. Our guide to remote nursing jobs lists the licensing rules and employers.

Can you watch your kids while working? What employers actually say

The honest answer is that phone-based remote jobs generally do not allow you to care for young children during your shift, and several companies say so directly. It is the single most important thing to know before applying.

What the companies publish:

Working Solutions: "Background noise such as movies, radio, appliances, children and pets are not allowed." (FAQ)

TTEC: "You must treat this as a professional position and keep your office completely noise-free," and its FAQ names noise from "family members or others in your home" as a distraction. (FAQ)

Foundever's October 2026 remote insurance support posting says you cannot be a primary caregiver during working hours. (posting)

Conduent's remote healthcare customer service posting asks for a distraction-free, secure workspace with no one else present during work hours. (posting)

Liveops asks for "a quiet workspace without background noise", and Transcom requires a private room with a door. Health insurers add privacy reasons: Humana's work-at-home requirements ask for a dedicated space to protect member health information.

What this means for your plan

  1. Phone and chat shifts need childcare, whether that is school, a partner's schedule, a relative or paid care. Schedule shifts around that coverage, not around naps.
  2. Task-based work is more forgiving. Transcription, research studies and AI-rating tasks have no live customer on the line, so you can pause when someone wakes up.
  3. Contractor scheduling helps. Liveops lets agents book time in blocks as short as 30 minutes, and Working Solutions contractors set their own hours, which makes it easier to fit shifts around another adult's availability.

Being upfront about this in interviews is fine. Saying you have a dedicated room and coverage during scheduled hours answers the question employers are really asking.

How to make money as a stay at home mom without a boss

If you want to know how to make money as a stay at home mom without a boss or a shift, side hustles and small freelance businesses are the alternative. They trade a predictable paycheck for control over when you work.

Options that fit around children, each covered in more depth elsewhere on this site:

  • Selling used items and reselling. Children's clothes, gear and toys sell steadily. Fees range from nothing on a local Facebook Marketplace pickup to 20% on Poshmark; see where to sell used items.
  • Tutoring. The BLS May 2025 tutor median is $20.84 an hour. Sessions can be booked for evenings once a partner is home.
  • Freelance writing, design or bookkeeping. These can be done in any time window, with deadlines rather than shifts. The side hustles from home guide covers startup costs and first steps for each.
  • Pet sitting or child care for other families. In-person, but from home. Check your state's child care licensing rules before caring for other children regularly.

Taxes change when you're self-employed

Side hustle income is taxable. The IRS says you must pay self-employment tax and file Schedule SE if your net earnings from self-employment are $400 or more, and the rate is 15.3%. The same applies to 1099 contractor work at Working Solutions or Liveops. Setting aside part of each payment from the start avoids a surprise in April. Our guide on how to start a side business covers record-keeping and quarterly payments.

Fees, MLM pitches and scams aimed at parents at home

Parents at home are a favorite target for work-from-home pitches, and two kinds of offers deserve a hard look.

Programs that cost money to join

Some legitimate contractor platforms charge fees, and you should know the numbers before you sign up:

  • Arise says it is "not offering a job rather a business venture." Its costs page lists a $30 background check, a platform fee (changing to 5% of the business's invoice total from June 1, 2025), a USB headset at about $35–$100, and $100–$350 to incorporate.
  • Liveops agents pay a non-refundable $25 background-check fee to a third-party screener, client certification is unpaid, and the FAQ says Liveops "doesn't guarantee earnings."

By contrast, Working Solutions says there are no fees to join its network, and the employers in the table above pay for training. If a program asks for money, compare it with those first.

MLM "opportunities" and fake jobs

Direct-sales and MLM recruiting often targets parents with the promise of being your own boss. The FTC warns that when promoters emphasize recruiting new distributors as the real way to make money, or you must buy product regularly to stay active, it may be a pyramid scheme. That is not a job.

Outright scams are a separate problem. The FTC says honest employers will never ask you to pay to get a job, and that no real employer sends you a check to deposit and then asks you to send part of it back. One in three people who reported losing money to a job or business opportunity scam in 2025 said it started on social media, which is where many "mom job" groups live. Before applying anywhere, run the offer through our work from home scams checklist, and find the job on the company's own careers page. The guides hub has more situations, including how to make money as a teen if older children want to earn too.

Questions people ask

What is the best job for a stay at home mom?
The best job is the one that fits the hours you can reliably protect. With scattered nap-time hours, task-based work such as transcription or paid research studies fits best. With school hours free, part-time remote customer service or tutoring works. With full-day childcare, full-time remote jobs with benefits, such as customer service at Concentrix or Transcom, are realistic. If you have professional skills, such as nursing or bookkeeping, those pay more than entry-level roles.
Can I work from home with a baby or toddler?
Not on live phone shifts, in most cases. Working Solutions says background noise from children is not allowed, TTEC requires a completely noise-free office, and Foundever's October 2026 posting says you cannot be a primary caregiver during working hours. Task-based work without a live customer, such as transcription or research studies, is more forgiving because you can pause. For scheduled shifts, plan childcare coverage first.
How can a stay at home mom make $1,000 a month?
At the BLS May 2025 median for customer service representatives, $21.53 an hour, $1,000 takes about 46 hours of work a month, or roughly 11 hours a week, before taxes. Entry-level starting rates are lower; at U-Haul's posted $16 an hour it takes about 63 hours. A steady part-time job of 20 hours a week, like TTEC's minimum, covers that target, while per-task work is less predictable.
Are there work from home jobs for moms with no experience?
Yes, but fewer than ads suggest. Foundever's FAQ says you can apply with no experience and offers paid training, Transcom lists call-center experience as preferred rather than required, and GoTranscript and CrowdGen accept beginners for task work. Many other postings ask for six months to a year of customer service experience, plus typing tests, background checks and specific internet requirements.
Do work from home jobs for moms charge a fee to start?
Legitimate employers do not. The FTC says honest employers will never ask you to pay to get a job. Employers such as Conduent, Concentrix and TTEC pay for training. Two contractor platforms are exceptions worth knowing: Arise lists costs including a $30 background check and platform fees, and Liveops agents pay a $25 background-check fee. Any other request for money up front is a red flag.
Do stay at home moms pay tax on contractor income from home?
Yes. Employers withhold taxes from paychecks. If you work as a contractor or run a side hustle, the IRS says you must pay self-employment tax and file Schedule SE when your net self-employment earnings are $400 or more, at a rate of 15.3%. Contractor platforms such as Working Solutions and Liveops do not withhold taxes, so set aside part of each payment.
