Educational information, not financial, tax or legal advice. Pay figures are published medians and employer postings, not a promise of what you will earn. Read our disclaimer.
Legit work from home jobs do exist, and the 34 companies in the directory on this page are ones we checked on their own careers or help pages on October 13, 2026. They include customer service employers such as TTEC, Conduent and Transcom, transcription and AI-data platforms such as Rev and DataAnnotation, and health insurers hiring remote nurses. Each entry tells you whether you would be an employee or a contractor, what the company itself says it pays, and whether you have to pay anything to start. Two of the 34 do charge costs up front, and we explain both below so you can decide with the numbers in front of you.

Official careers pageChecked Oct 13, 2026
Every entry links to the company's own careers page, which is where details were checked. Openings change daily; a company being listed here does not mean it is hiring today. Never pay to apply.
Here is how the 34 break down. Some companies appear in more than one category, so the rows add up to more than 34.
| Category | Companies | What the work is |
|---|---|---|
| Customer service | 12 | Phone, chat and email support, mostly as W-2 employees |
| Data entry, transcription and AI data | 12 | Transcription, AI rating and annotation, research studies, micro-tasks, mostly as contractors |
| Nursing | 10 | Telephonic case management, utilization review, care coordination, nurse auditing |
| Open to people with no experience | 7 | Foundever, Transcom, Liveops, GoTranscript, Clickworker, Appen (CrowdGen), Mindrift |
By employment type, 9 of the 34 are listed as W-2 employers and 11 as independent-contractor platforms. For the rest, the employment type depends on the role or project, so check each posting.
Pay in the directory comes only from the company's own posting or help page. A few examples, all read in October 2026:
- Transcom lists "$17.31 USD Starting Pay" for a work-from-home advisor role, and supplies the computer, monitor and headset.
- U-Haul lists $16 an hour for a remote phone role, rising to $19 within 6–9 months.
- Rev lists $0.40–$1.10 per audio or video minute for transcriptionists, paid weekly via PayPal.
- DataAnnotation lists general AI-training work starting at $25–$50+ an hour, but asks for a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Humana lists $78,400–$107,800 a year for a remote nationwide Nurse Auditor, a role that needs critical care or DRG auditing experience.
For context, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) puts the national median at $21.53 an hour for customer service representatives and $19.88 an hour for data entry keyers in May 2025. The FTC warns that an offer claiming you can make a lot of money in a short time with little work is almost certainly a scam.
How we checked each company, and what we left out
Every company in the directory passed the same short process, carried out on October 13, 2026.
- We read the company's own pages. That means its careers site, a live job posting, its FAQ or its help center, never a third-party review or a job-board copy. Each card links to the exact page we read, and each entry carries the date it was verified.
- We recorded pay only where the company published it. If a posting showed no rate, the card says so. We did not estimate.
- We recorded where you can live. Many remote roles exclude states. Conduent's checked posting, for example, was not hiring in AK, CA, CT, HI, IL, MA, MD, MT, NJ, NY, OR or WA, and several nurse roles require a multistate compact license.
- We recorded employment type (W-2 employee or 1099 contractor) and the equipment and internet each company asks for.
- We recorded any fee. Only Arise and Liveops involve costs before you earn, and both are flagged.
We also chose to leave things out. Our job feed and directory exclude commission-only insurance-agent recruiting and home-based travel-agent ("vacation booker") programs, because they commonly charge recruits. We do not list multi-level marketing as a job, and we do not present survey apps as a real income.
A verification is a snapshot, not a guarantee. Postings close, pay changes and waitlists open and shut; Rev, for example, said in October 2026 that it had a waitlist for new freelancers. Treat the date on each card as the date the facts were true, and recheck the company's page before you apply. Our editorial policy explains how we check facts and screen jobs in more detail.
Five checks to confirm any work from home job is legitimate
Our directory covers 34 companies, but you will meet many more. These five checks for work from home legitimate jobs come straight from FTC and FBI guidance.
- Find the job on the company's own careers page. The FBI says scammers spoof real company websites with look-alike addresses and post fake openings on job boards; a posting that appears on job boards but not on the company's site is a warning sign (FBI IC3). Type the company's address yourself rather than clicking a link in a message.
- Check who is contacting you and how. The FTC says recruiters generally email from a corporate account, not a personal one like @gmail.com or @yahoo.com, and that real employers will not contact you with generic, unexpected texts, WhatsApp or Telegram messages. An interview held only by text or chat is a red flag.
- Search the company name with "scam", "review" or "complaint". That is the FTC's own advice (FTC: Job Scams). No complaints does not prove a company is honest, but complaints can tip you off to problems.
- Refuse to pay, and refuse checks. The FTC says honest employers, including the federal government, will never ask you to pay to get a job, and no honest employer will send you a check to deposit and then ask you to send part of it on or buy gift cards.
- Hold back your Social Security and bank numbers until after you are hired. The FTC says real employers will not ask for your driver's license, Social Security or bank account number before they have interviewed and hired you.
One more habit the FTC recommends: talk the offer over with someone you trust before you act. The FTC also says honest businesses will give you time to decide, while scammers pressure you to act fast.
The stakes are real. The FTC reports that people lost $750.6 million to business and job opportunity scams in 2024, and that one in three people who reported losing money to a job or business opportunity scam in 2025 said it started on social media. For the full list of warning signs and an interactive checker, see our guide to work from home scams.
Legitimate but not free: Arise and Liveops
Two well-known names in the directory are real companies that still cost money to start. They are not scams in the FTC's sense, because they disclose their costs openly and the work is real, but they are not jobs either. Here is what each one publishes.
Arise says on its own site that "we are not offering a job rather a business venture" and that the work "may require investment (in terms of both equipment and unpaid time)." To contract directly you register a business entity with an EIN, or you join an existing business on the platform as its agent. Its costs page lists:
| Arise cost (per its costs page) | Amount |
|---|---|
| Background check | $30 |
| Platform fee per active agent | $19.75 twice a month, changing to 5% of the business's invoice total from June 1, 2025 |
| USB headset | About $35–$100 |
| Phone-line installation | About $75 |
| Incorporating a business | $100–$350 |
Client courses last 10 days to 4 weeks and may need a refundable Class Confirmation Deposit.
Liveops hires independent contract agents. Agents pay a non-refundable $25.00 background-check processing fee directly to a third-party screener, some clients require an equipment deposit, and client certification is free but unpaid. Its FAQ says some programs pay a talk-time rate of 25 to 34 cents per minute, others add commission or pay commission only, and that Liveops "doesn't guarantee earnings."
How to weigh them. Ask three questions before you sign up:
- Can you afford to lose the money if it doesn't work out? Fees and equipment are spent before your first payment.
- Do you already own the equipment? Liveops asks for a Windows 11 PC with 6+ cores, 16 GB of RAM and dual monitors. If you would have to buy it, the cost climbs fast.
- Is there a free alternative for the same work? Working Solutions, another contractor network in our directory, states that "there are no fees involved to join our network" and pays $0.25–$0.31 per productive minute. Employers such as Conduent and Transcom ship equipment and pay you during training.
For most people starting out, a W-2 employer with paid training is the safer first step. A fee-based platform can make sense if you want contractor flexibility and already have the setup.
Home jobs that work: match the verified options to your situation
The best of the legit work from home jobs is the one you can actually get hired for this month. Use this table to go straight to the right part of the site.
| Your situation | Best place to start | Where to read more |
|---|---|---|
| You need steady hours and have some customer-facing experience | W-2 customer service employers (TTEC, TP, Conduent, Transcom) | Customer service remote jobs |
| You prefer quiet typing work and flexible hours | Transcription and task platforms (Rev, TranscribeMe, GoTranscript, Clickworker) | Data entry remote jobs |
| You have never held a job | Companies marked no-experience in the directory | Remote jobs with no experience |
| You only have evenings or a few hours a week | Contractor platforms without minimum hours, and part-time listings | Part-time remote jobs |
| You are a registered nurse | Insurers and telehealth companies hiring telephonic and review nurses | Remote nursing jobs |
A few honest notes on fit. Most employee roles ask for a wired internet connection, a private workspace and set shifts; Foundever, for instance, says you cannot be a primary caregiver during working hours. Contractor platforms offer more freedom but no guaranteed work, and you owe self-employment tax of 15.3% once your net self-employment earnings reach $400 in a year (IRS).
If none of these fits yet, remote jobs are only one route. Our overview of how to make money from home also covers side hustles and selling, and the remote jobs hub lists every role we track with live listings that refresh every morning.
